July 16, 2026: yesterday the Taganrog Chekhov Public Library hosted a vibrant cultural event entitled "With Chekhov Book in Our Garden." The program was dedicated to the friendship between Anton Chekhov and the great architect Fyodor Shekhtel.

In the library's exhibition hall, the audience enjoyed a rich creative program: heartfelt romances were performed, theatrical miniatures based on Chekhov's works were presented, and excerpts from the writer's correspondence with the architect were read—lines that offered a fresh perspective on Chekhov and revealed the nuances of his relationships with his contemporaries.

A key part of the evening included welcoming addresses from Taganrog's international partners. These were read by Dmitry Kulichyov, specialist of Department for Tourism Development and Foreign Relations of Taganrog Local Government. Warm words and good wishes were sent by Fergana Isayeva (Baku Slavic University, Azerbaijan), Yelena Yemelyanova (Russian Center, the city of Aktobe, Kazakhstan), and Ines Burkhardt (a poetess from Innsbruck, Austria). These messages emphasized the special role of Chekhov's legacy as a link between different countries and cultures.
