July 11, 2012: The
International Children's
Art Contest "Anton Chekhov and Characters of his Works" was held for the sixth time in the city of Taganrog. About 200 works from 14 cities of Russia, Ukraine and Belorus were presented to the first contest held in 2004 marked as Chekhov’s Year in Russia.
In 2007, the contest gathered children and teenagers from 20 countries: Abkhazia, Croatia, Germany, Great Britain, Hungary, India, Iran, Italy, Korea, Macedonia, Transnistria, Nigeria, Romania, Russia, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sri-Lanka, Ukraine, USA. About 800 works were presented.
In 2012, the contest gathered children and teenagers from 21 countries and many cities and regions of Russia, with more than 3000 artworks received from all over the world. Young artists from Austria, Australia, Bulgaria, Greece, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Tajikistan, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia participated for the very first time, bringing the total number of participant countries to 36.
The award ceremony took place in the exhibition hall of the historical building of the Chekhov Municipal Public Library.
The Grand Prix was awarded to Maxim Bogma, aged 14, from the village Petrovskaya in Krasnodar Krai, Russia; the People's Choice Award was given to Nojus Petkevicius, aged 5 from Vilnius, Lithuania.
