Exhibit Dedicated to Chekhov Family to Open in Jining, China

April 26, 2017: for more than a century world literature, dramatic art, theater and cinema have been influenced by Anton Chekhov's brilliant talent. The playwright has been long known and loved in China: in 1907 his first literary work was translated into Chinese language - it was "The Black Monk", and in 1950s at the highest point of Soviet-Chinese friendship was published Chekhov's complete set of works. Today his life and literary heritage still enjoy much interest in Peoples' Republic of China.

In 2015 Taganrog and its Chinese sistercity - hometown of world-famous thinker Confucius - Jining discussed ideas of exchanging exhibitions. September 8-11, 2016 an official delegation headed by Mr. Yin Yunling came to attend Taganrog City Day celebrations, dedicated to 318 years of its foundation. Within the framework of this visit, the Confucius Cultural Photo Exhibition was inaugurated in Taganrog. People visiting the showroom had an opportunity to learn more about Confucius life story, the influence of his thoughts in the world, Confucian culture and the city of Jining.

May 18, 2017 on International Museum Day, Taganrog Group of Museums will reciprocate with an exhibit "The Talented Chekhov Family" in Jining, dedicated to three generations of Chekhovs. Each generation was rich in talents, particularly Pavel Chekhov's children: Anton became a world-known writer, while Nikolai was a good artist and violin player. His nephews were also very gifted: Michael Chekhov became a world-known actor and director, Sergei Mikhailovich and Sergei Sergeevich Chekhovs - both talented artists. The exhibition will also acquaint the Chinese public with Taganrog's history and present-day life.

The cultural cooperation between the two cities will continue with a concert of traditional Chinese music in Taganrog, which is planned for September 2017.
