Inauguration of the scientific and educational center "NANOTECHNOLOGIES"

September 19, 2008: Yesterday in Taganrog was held inauguration of the scientific and educational center "NANOTECHNOLOGIES" of the Taganrog College of Technologies (Taganrog Technical Institute of the Southern Federal University). Vice-Governors Alexander Bedrik and Sergey Nazarov, Mayor Nikolay Fedyanin and Vladislav Zakharevich, Rector of the Southern Federal University participated in the solemn ceremony.

This is an important event not only for the Taganrog College of Technologies, but for the whole city which celebrated its 310-year anniversary. The future and the present of Taganrog lies in modern, state-of-the-art high technology productions based on the leading scientific developments, employing talented specialists from the city of Taganrog.

From its foundation in 1952, the Taganrog College of Technologies has been on the leading edge of the national science, working not only for defense industry, but for the whole nation's economy. It would be enough to mention that the first microchip in Soviet Russia was developed in the city of Taganrog, with the first All-Union microelectronics conference in Taganrog to follow. The college expanded and developed numerous branches, which makes it today the largest scientific and production complex in this country.

In 2006, the college won the national contest within the framework of the National Priority Project "Education", and then entered the federal goal-oriented program on nanotechnologies. With that in mind, the Russian government recognized the achievements of Taganrog scientists, counting on their experience and knowledge.

The infrastracture that has been created within the framework of the Taganrog College of Technologies (Taganrog Technical Institute of the Southern Federal University) will be used for joining efforts of science and industry in creation of science intensive products in the new foundation of nanotechnologies. The introduction and implementation of these technologies is to ensure technological security and independence of this country, solving the problems of import substitution and in general - to contribute to economy expansion and shifting it to the needs of increasing the peoples' well-being.
