December 25, 2023: yesterday the book "Taganrog: The History of the Architecture and Urbanism in the Late 17th - Early 20th Centuries" (a revised 2nd edition) was presented at Taganrog Chekhov Public Library. The authors are director of
Taganrog Museum of Architecture and Urbanism, Ph.D. in Art History Marianna Grigoryan and art historian Victor Reshetnikov. The presentations of the monograph were held at "Chekhov Gymnasium" Museum and at the Chekhov Public Library.
The book covers the period from the foundation of Taganrog to the October Revolution: the stages of construction and destruction of the Trinity Fortress on Tagan-Rog in the time of Peter I, the restoration of the city during the reign of Catherine II, Taganrog's development in the 19th - early 20th centuries.
The authors used materials from Russian State Archive of Military History (RGVIA) in Moscow, Russian State Archive of History (RGIA) in Saint Petersburg, the National Library of France, Nationalmuseum (Stockholm, Sweden), the Shchusev Museum of Architecture (Moscow, Russia), the State Hermitage Museum (Saint Petersburg, Russia), the State Archive of Rostov Oblast (GARO) and Taganrog Group of Museums.
The detailed study for researchers and for everyone interested in architecture, "Taganrog. The History of the Architecture and Urbanism in the Late 17th - Early 20th Centuries" is to be available for sale in 2024.
