Attention and hospitality to refugees from South Ossetia

August 31, 2008: More than two hundred refugees from South Ossetia (73 of them are children) continue their stay at Taganrog city environs under close attention and care of the regional governments.

The war against South Ossetia left no one in Taganrog indifferent: the Taganrog Education Council, the Taganrog Association of Parents' Committees, Taganrog schools and tutorial councils provided for all school students and preschoolers everything they will need for going to school. From the first days of their stay in Don Region, the refugees received everything they needed, including TV sets, communication devices, refrigerators and school sets. Baby carriages were purchased for 11 infants.

More than 35,000 refugees have crossed the border in the last few days. The regions of the Southern Federal District are taking them in, of course, providing them with help and giving them accommodation in children's holiday camps, schools and places of temporary shelter. The whole country is collecting clothing, tents and food to send. Up to date, some 800 refugees have been evacuated to Rostov Oblast.
