March 30, 2005 - Each year in Russia, on the third week of March, begin the Days for Action "Ecology. Safety. Life.". The city of Taganrog has been participating in these events since 1994 and this year the action started on March 22, the day, proclaimed by the United Nations as the "World Water Day". The initiated in Taganrog program of action "Ecology. Safety. Life" includes over 20 events, involving the water and environmental protection authorities, educational and non-governmental institutions, Taganrog-based companies, high school and university students. The program of events has been officially approved by Nikolay Fedyanin, Mayor of Taganrog and includes:

  • The City Ecological Readings among the school students. Young ecologists will present the results of their practical research works for the following subjects: Human Ecology, Ecology and Ecosystems, Ecology of Hydrosphere

  • The Planting of Trees - this initiative is meant to improve the environment in the city of Taganrog. High school and college students, environmental and public foundations. Historical sites, places of rest and recreation, school gardens are usually selected for planting of trees. The Center for the out-of-school activities has initiated laying a rowan-tree alley to commemorate the 60th Anniversary of V-Day in World War Two.

  • The Citywide Art Contest among the students of high schools, which always suprises with many bright and original artworks.

  • Spotchecks, special assignments, monitoring investigations, seminars, mass media releases and subbotniks.

  • Publication of the annual collection of articles "On the State of Environment in the city of Taganrog" and a collection of the best selected articles after the City Ecological Readings "Eco-Erudite" among the school students.
