April 11, 2016: a public planting of trees was held in Taganrog on April 9, 2016. The city has kept the tradition to observe this holiday since the first action, which was
held three years ago with participation of Dr. Georg Birgelen, Deputy Head of Mission of the German Embassy in Moscow.
Taganrogers participated in several re-greening actions across the city streets, parks and other territories, including one of the favorite recreation areas - Pushkin Embankment, where at 10AM representatives of Taganrog Local Government, Taganrog City Council, municipal corporations, law-enforcement authorities, members of junior natural history study groups, youth movements and city residents gathered for planting of greenery.
"Governor's initiative to establish the new tradition of tree planting has found support of Taganrog residents. Today we will be planting over one thousand trees and shrubs in various city areas, with most young plants given to district authorities", told acting mayor Alexey Makhov and wished everyone to have a great time.
Taking the shovels and young plants of maple, willow and cotoneaster, participants of the action started to work. In about an hour hundreds of saplings and shrubs were planting around the new part of Pushkin Embankment to provide Taganrogers and city visitors with shade in summertime.
