The 2nd Chekhov Book Festival in Taganrog

May 11-18, 2008: The Second Chekhov Book Festival is going to be held in Taganrog within the framework of the 150th Anniversary of Chekhov's birth in 2010 with the support of the Federal Agency of Press and Mass communications, the Federal Agency of Culture and Cinematography, the Independent Foundation "Pushkin Library", the Ministry of Culture of the Rostov Oblast and Taganrog Local Government. Tatiana Mikheeva, the director of the Centralized Library System of Taganrog spoke about the event at the press conference Apr. 15.

The Book Festival is promising to be exceptionally interesting, gathering many outstanding guests:

Ludmila Ulitskaya, one of the most prominent and best-selling contemporary Russian writers, the author of "The Funeral Party", "Medea and Her Children", "Sonechka", "Kukotsky Casus", "Sincerely Yours, Shurik", "The People of Our Tsar". She is a laureate of the Booker Prize (2001). In 2007 she won the most eminent Russian literary award - "The Grand Book" Prize for her novel "Daniel Stein, the Interpreter". Her writings are widely translated into many foreign languages and published all over the world.

Grigory Gladkov, a famous Russian composer, the author of music for best-loved television and radio programs, cartoons, performances, documentaries and movies, a laureate of international festivals of animated cartoons.

The famous writers Maya Kucherskaya and Olga Slavnikova, children's writers Arthur Givargizov and Victor Lunin, poet Vitaly Pukhanov are also expected to participate in the Festival.

Meetings with authors, the training seminar "School of Librarian’s Mastery", workshop for the young literary men, opening of the Second Book Expo "The Best Books of Russia – for Taganrog", the conference "Anton Chekhov. Steppe. 120 years" are on the agenda of the Festival. May 11-18 people of Taganrog will be able to buy their favorite books at the book fair near the Central City Library.
