June 6, 2013: following the visit of Lazio region's delegation to Taganrog in December 2011, in 2012 Italian side supported by ISPROM (Istituto di Studi e Programmi per il Mediterraneo) initiated establishment of direct partner city relations with municipality of La Maddalena, Italy.

June 1-2, 2013 official delegation of Taganrog headed by Mayor Vladimir Prasolov participated in the solemn events dedicated to celebration of the Day of Italian Republic and 132nd anniversary of Giuseppe Garibaldi.



June 1, 2013 mayors of La Maddalena and Taganrog held a meeting at the La Maddalena city hall, where they signed the protocol of intentions regarding their plans to further promote cultural cooperation and municipal exchanges. The same day a round table discussion "Garibaldi and the brave people of Russia" was held at the city hall. It was organized by ISPROM (Istituto di Studi e Programmi per il Mediterraneo) and presided by chairman of the regional Giuseppe Garibaldi Institute, Senator Mario Birardi. In the discussion participated: Pierangelo Catalano, professor of Roman law at the University of Rome 'La Sapienza' and director of "Giorgio La Pira" unit within ISPROM, Annita Garibaldi-Jallet (Director of ANVRG - Associazione Nazionale Veterani e Reduci Garibaldini and Director of Villa Riofreddo museum), professors Aldo Accardo, Paolo Peluffo, Lauro Rossi, Marina Radomskaya, Deputy Mayor of Taganrog (Social Affairs), Alexander Mirgorodskiy, Taganrog Foreign Relations Officer, Giovanni Perrino, former head of education dept. at the Italian Embassy in Moscow.

June 2, 2013, Taganrog delegation participated in the official celebrations held in La Maddalena and laid a crown to Garibaldi's tomb on the island of Caprera.


Mayor Prasolov spoke at Giuseppe Garibaldi Memorial on Caprera: "We have so much in common: Taganrog and the island of Caprera are both located in the south and share sun and the sound of breakers with its citizens and tourists. Here, on Caprera in Porto Palma Bay there is a famous yachting center. Our home city is the sailing center of the South of Russia with regular sports events held each year. And we both have a monument to Giuseppe Garibaldi - "the hero of the two worlds"."
