Participation of the Taganrog Museum of Art in the Year of Russia in China

July 26, 2006 - Following the decree N 277-RP of the President of Russian Federation of June 24, 2005 "On the year of the Russian Federation in the Chinese People's Republic and the year of Chinese People's Republic in the Russian Federation in 2006-2007", there will be more than 500 events covering a wide spectrum of areas including culture, economy and education to be prepared by both sides in 2006 and 2007. The Year of Russia in China and the Year of China, to be held in Russia next year, are all part of efforts to strengthen the two countries' strategic partnership.

The program of the year of Russian Federation in China features the art exhibition "Russian Realism of the second half of the 19th century", which will be presented in the museums of art of Guizhou and Beijing. The Taganrog Museum of Art, along with 18 other museums nationwide was also included into the exhibition project backed up by the President. Two masterpieces from the Taganrog Museum of Art collection - "Carrara" by Nikolai Ge and "Evening Shadows" by Isaac Levitan already left for exhibition in Beijing. The year of Russia in China gives a unique chance to revive the exchange between museums of the two countries, because there have been no art exhibitions with Russian masters in the last 15 years.

Perfectly formed and diverse in content, the collection of Taganrog Museum of Art is considered to be one of the best in Russia and enables the museum to take part in the all-Russian and international large-scale exhibition projects.
