September 27, 2012: representatives of the Taganrog Central Municipal Public Library named after Anton Chekhov - Yelizaveta Shapochka and Nataly Martynova; Vladimir Polyiov, Director of the Taganrog Maritime Instrument Engineering School and his students - participated in the International Theoretical and Practical Conference "Sedov Readings - 2012" and in the inauguration of a municipal public library named after Georgy Sedov in the town of Sedovo, Donetsk Oblast, Ukraine.
The event in Sedovo, Ukraine was dedicated to 100th anniversary of the First Russian North Pole Expedition and 135th birth anniversary of Georgy Sedov - Russian Arctic explorer, who was born in a small village of Krivaya Kosa, which was then part of the Taganrog Governorate. The Taganrog delegation visited the Georgy Sedov Memorial Museum, which offers its visitor a interesting collection of documents, photographs, objects from Sedov's expeditions - including authentic parts of the ship, a shovel and many more objects found on Rudolf Island off Franz Josef Archipelago, Russia, where Georgy Yakovlevich Sedov died on February 20, 1914.
In his report "Design of sonar equipments for polar working" at the conference, Mr.Polyiov presented the acoustic products developed by the Taganrog Maritime Instrument Engineering School for expeditions conducting polar workings in the ocean.
The inauguration of Sedovo Public Library became an important event for the little town of Sedovo as well as for its guests. Yelizaveta Shapochka and Vladimir Polyiov (who was born in Sedovo) spoke at the meeting and transmitted books, Chekhov works and brochures about Taganrog and
Anton Chekhov into the library holdings.
