Four Russian steelmakers join IISI

October 4, 2005 - Russian steelmakers Evraz Group, Magnitogorsk Iron & Steel Works (MMK), Novolipetsk Iron & Steel Works (NLMK) and TMK (Pipe Metallurgical Company) joined the International Iron & Steel Institute (IISI).

Together with Severstal, which is already an IISI member, the institute now includes all the major steel companies in Russia and the top 20 steel producers in the world, IISI Secretary General Ian Christmas told the group's 39th annual conference in Seoul.

The addition of the Russian steelmakers follows the expansion of the IISI to include five leading Chinese steelmakers in 2004, and highlights the increased importance of the two countries to the industry, Christmas said.

Arcelor CEO Guy Doll has been elected the new Chairman of IISI, replacing the current Chairman Akio Mimura of Nippon Steel. Mimura, Posco CEO Lee Ku-taek and US Steel CEO John Surma were elected Vice Chairmen of the IISI.

JFE Steel CEO Hajime Bada and Severstal Chairman Alexei Mordashov join the IISI's executive committee, replacing Nucor CEO Dan DiMicco, Bluescope Steel md and CEO Kirby Adams and Celsa Steel CEO Francisco Rubiralta.

The TMK Group are: Volzhsky Pipe Plant (in Volgograd Oblast), Taganrog Iron and Steel Factory (TAGMET) (in Rostov Oblast), Sinarsky Pipe Works (in Sverdlovsk Oblast) and Seversky Tube Works (in Sverdlovsk Oblast).
