October 18, 2021: a public planting of trees took place in Taganrog on October 16. It was held within the framework of "Arbor Day"'s autumn campaign. The city has kept the tradition to observe this holiday since the first action, which was held
eight years ago with participation of Dr. Georg Birgelen, Deputy Head of Mission of the German Embassy in Moscow.
Taganrogers participated in several re-greening actions across the city streets, parks and other territories, including the historic "Oak Grove" established by Russian emperor Peter the Great, "Peter the Great" Square, Zapadniy ("Western") Square. Over 660 trees and 690 shrubs were planted in a single day by representatives of Rostov Oblast Government, Taganrog Local Government,
Taganrog City Council (Duma), top managers of
Tagmet and
Taganrog Commercial Seaport, municipal corporations workers, law-enforcement authorities, members of junior natural history study groups, youth movements and city residents.
During the tree-planting at Zapadniy ("Western") Square, Vice-Governor of Rostov Oblast Alexander Skryabin awarded Taganrog's City Executive and President of
Taganrog City Council (Duma) Dr. Inna Titarenko with Rostov Oblast Governor's "Distinguished Service" medal. According to Governor's order, the City Executive is honored for her "significant contribution to the development of local self-governance and sustainable social and economic development of Rostov Oblast"
All tree-planting activities were held respecting COVID-19 health and safety guidelines established by the Russian Federal State Agency for Health and Consumer Rights.
