October 21, 2024: a public planting of trees took place in Taganrog on October 19. The city has kept the tradition to observe this holiday since the first action, which was held
eleven years ago with participation of Dr. Georg Birgelen, Deputy Head of Mission of the German Embassy in Moscow.
Deputy of Rostov Oblast Legislative Assembly and chief of Taganrog Central Library System Tatiana Mikheyeva, Taganrog City Executive Svetlana Kambulova, Taganrog City Council President Roman Koryakin, deputies of Taganrog City Council, representatives of local enterprises and institutions, and city residents took part in the event.
This time, the main work area on Arbor Day was the sector of Ulitsa Dzerzhinskogo near Privokzalnaya Ploshchad. The participants planted there 25 seedlings of linden. A total of over 850 trees and about 700 shrubs were planted in Taganrog on October 19.
"Timely watering is important for a young tree. We will organize it. I hope that all the participants in the action have a magic touch and all the trees will take root," said Svetlana Kambulova.
"Environmentalists say that in our warm climate, it is best to plant trees in the fall, in cool weather and damp soil. Of course, we trust the specialists. We hope that these seedlings will take root and will be properly cared for. And then Taganrog will have one more island of green space. It is very important for our southern city to preserve green spaces and increase their number," said Roman Koryakin.
