November 12, 2008: a delegation of the Italian Embassy in Russia headed by Alberto di Mauro, Director of the Italian Institute of Culture in Moscow visited the city of Taganrog to gift the local historical museum (Alferaki Palace) an oil on canvas copy of the painting "Garibaldi in Taganrog" by the Italian artist Nunes Vais Italo (1860 – 1932). The painting depicts the meeting between Giuseppe Garibaldi and other members of the Young Italy (La Giovine Italia).




The copy of the famous painting was made upon the permission of the director of the National Risorgimento Museum in Milan, Italy that holds the original painting and with assistance of the Italian Institute of Culture in Moscow at the Italian Embassy in Russia.




A concert of Italian Classic Music organized with support of the Italian Institute of Culture and Taganrog Local Government was also held today at the Taganrog's concert hall "Olymp" within the framework of the visit. The program featured the performance of the Rostov Academic Symphony Orchestra directed by Yuriy Tkachenko, the honored artist of Russian Federation and Italian artists: Andrea Maria Pontarelli, pianist and Michelangelo Pepino, tenor.




Earlier, on September 12, 2007 Italian delegation headed by Annita Garibaldi-Jallet and Giovanni Perrino, Head of the Education Dept. of the Italian Embassy in Moscow visited Taganrog to assist the inauguration of the new Garibaldi monument within the framework of the Day of the City and Giuseppe Garibaldi bicentenary celebrations.
