November 20, 2017: robot manufacturers, researchers of Scientific Design Bureau "Robotics and Control Systems" from Taganrog won the first round of AEROBOT contest for the best unmanned flying vehicle (UAV) pre-programmed guidance hardware/software package.
The contestants gathered in the Laboratory of Perspective Systems of Navigation at the Applied Mechanics Department of the Department of Aerophysics and Space Research of Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT). All participating teams had to go through a virtual path with obstacles of arbitrary size in full autonomy, and to develop UAV sensors data real-time control and processing algorithms.
The best result was demonstrated by the Taganrog-based Scientific Design Bureau "Robotics & Control Systems" (NKB RISU), followed by Tomsk National Research Polytechnic University and Trapeznikov Institute of Control Sciences. These three teams will participate in the final round to be held in April 2018 at the real test range with drones provided by the Russian Foundation for Advanced Research Projects in the Defense Industry (FPI).
