December 4-7, 2011: delegation from Lazio, Italy headed by Angelo Miele, Consigliere of Regione Lazio visited Taganrog within the framework of the Year of Russian culture and Russian language in Italy and the Year of Italian culture and language in Russia. Other Lazio delegates were Romano Ugolini, President of the Istituto per la storia del Risorgimento italiano in Rome; Pierangelo Catalano, professor of Roman law at the University of Rome 'La Sapienza' and director of "Giorgio La Pira" unit within ISPROM (Istituto di Studi e Programmi per il Mediterraneo); Cristiano Calvano, representative of Valmontone municipality, and Mrs. Rosanna Gasbarro, interpreter.
December 6, the Italian delegation was received by
Mayor Nikolay Fedyanin at the Taganrog City Hall. The delegation came to Taganrog with specific proposals that include the entry of the city into Conférence permanente des Villes historiques de la Méditerranée (presided by Mayor of Bethlehem), establishment of partner-city relations with the Italian city of Civitavecchia, and joint research of Russian travels of Giuseppe Garibaldi. All these and other discussed opportunities of cooperation will be aimed at reviving the cooperation and exchanges between the two countries.
During the tour of the city, the visitors from Lazio visited the Chekhov Shop (Lavka) museum,
Chekhov Drama Theater, Alferaki Palace, Tchaikovsky House, Chekhov Library and Chekhov Gymnasium.
