May 11, 2017: Taganrog celebrated Victory Day commemorating the nation's major role in the allied victory over Nazi Germany in Great Patriotic War (World War II).
The list of events consisted of feature concerts, films and other festivities in many locations, public gatherings and laying of flowers to numerous war monuments.
May 5, around three thousand students of Taganrog schools gathered on Oktyabrskaya Plaza and danced to the melody of the famous pre-war waltz "The Blue Kerchief".
On May 9, 2017 nearly forty thousand people gathered in downtown Taganrog and marched down Petrovskaya, the city's mainstreet, to honor the memory of those who died in combat in 1941-1945. Participants of the now-traditional "Immortal Regiment March" wore St. George ribbons and carried photographs of their family members who fought in the war.
In Gorky Park the city residents and visitors had an opportunity to taste military cuisine and sing World War II-era songs special platforms and watch musical show at the open-air theater. A moment of silence was observed at 6PM, followed by a wreath-laying ceremony in front of the Eternal Flame monument.
The 72nd Victory Day anniversary celebration culminated in a fireworks show that illuminated the sky at 11PM.
