Taganrog athlete won gold at the Russian Archery Championship.

April 18, 2017: Elena Osipova, an athlete from Taganrog, won gold at the Russian Archery Championship.

The 2017 Russian National Archery Championship was held in the city of Alushta, Crimea. Over 300 athletes from 40 regions of Russian Federation came to contest 6 sets of medals in several individual and team events, such as recurve bow, composite bow and mixed competitions.

In the medal round, the 2016 Russian Cup winner Elena Osipova, who made her international debut in 2013, faced Yevgeniya Timofeyeva, a silver medalist at 2016 European Archery Championship. The athlete from Taganrog won with the final score 6:0, becoming the new Russian champion in recurve bow.

"This is the start of a 4-year round of preparations for Team Russia at 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. The Taganrog-based school of archery is considered to be one of the best in this country, so that we have very good chances to take part in the Olympics", commented Mr. Arakelyan, Rostov Oblast minister of sports.
