July 20, 2011: July 16-17, 2011: official delegation of the city of Taganrog headed by Vice-Mayor Lakaev participated in Khartsyzsk City Day celebrations. Yuri Lakaev addressed the citizens of Khartsyzsk at the laying of the foundation stone of the future monument dedicated to our greatest countryman Anton P.Chekhov. The memorial will be made by the project of sculptor Alexander Shamarin from Donetsk (Ukraine). The Ukrainian sister city Khartsyzsk is also part of the Chekhov heritage, being mentioned by Anton Chekhov in one of his letters to sister Maria Chekhova where he reminisced about his stay in Khartsyzsk on the way from Moscow to Taganrog in 1887.
