Taganrog Delegation Participated in Khartsyzsk Sister Cities Day Celebration

September 7, 2013: official delegation from Taganrog headed by Deputy Mayor Gennady Prokopenko participated in official events dedicated to 144 years of Khartsyzsk foundation and 70th anniversary of Khartsyzsk liberation from Nazi Germany occupation.

Two more delegations - from the cities of Mozyr (Republic of Belarus) and Mukachevo (Ukraine) came to visit the partner city Khartsyzsk.

A protocol meeting with Mr. Valery Duboboy, Mayor of Khartsyzsk was held in the city hall building. Taganrog delegation participated in the solemn procession and gathering at the monument to the fallen defenders of Motherland in Victory Plaza. Taganrog's Deputy Mayor Prokopenko congratulated people of Khartsyzsk on behalf of Mayor of Taganrog and Taganrog citizens, wishing health, happiness and peace: "Seeing how many surviving veterans and witnesses of the past war are still alive, the new generation understands the price our countries had to pay to win this war. Today it is very important not to forget the military exploits of Soviet soldiers".

In the lobby of Khartsyzsk municipal house of culture, the guests were offered a quiz on knowledge of aphorisms from Anton Chekhov's works and dramatized scenes "Van'ka", "Three Sisters", etc.

The guests were invited into the "Chekhov's Living Room" for a tea party and a pie made using recipe from a Chekhov's story, where they visited a presentation of three school projects based on Chekhov's and Gogol's heritage and aimed at developing international cultural relations.
