Contemporary French literature workshop series held in Taganrog


November 3, 2017: French poet, writer, translator and former diplomat Marc Sagnol revisited Taganrog for a new lecture series on contemporary French literature. This year's workshop continues the tradition that began in 2016. The first meetings of Taganrog audience with the French author were held in October 2014 within the framework of the Year of Culture in Russia.

The lecture program provided Taganrog Chekhov Teachers College students (ex-TGPI) with an insight into the work of such French masters of the word as Alain Robbe-Grillet, Nathalie Sarraute, Marguerite Duras, Michel Butor, Claude Simon, Jean-Phillipe Toussaint and René Char.

Marc Sagnol familiarized the participants with the background of the European literary trend "Le nouveau roman", analyzed the literary legacy of the mentioned French authors, provided insight into the creation history, stylistics and storylines.

A round table discussion was held on November 2 to summarize the literature workshop series in Taganrog and to exchange opinions about the event. Finally, Russian participants and professor Sagnol expressed theirs hope to continue and further extend the Russian-French cooperation in education.
