September 20, 2021: the new edition of international theater festival "In the Home City of Anton Chekhov" was held in Taganrog September 15-19, 2021.
The tradition of this festival goes back to 1980, and it received an international status in 1993. In this short period of time, theater companies and artists from Russia, Japan, Germany, Spain, Italy, Australia, South America, Georgia, Croatia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Great Britain have participated in the event.
The festival started with "The Darling" performed by
Taganrog Chekhov Drama Theater. It also featured the following plays: drama "Tzar's Hunt" (Novocherkassk Drama and Comedy Theater named after Komissarzhevskaya), "The Alleys of Love, or The Last Steamship" (theater company "Motion"), "The Barn Swallow" ("Comedy" Theater, Nizhny Novgorod). "In the Home City of Anton Chekhov" was finished with Chekhov's comedy drama "Rothschild's Violin" performed by Vladimir Academic Drama Theater.
The festival's program was not limited to plays. For instance, specialists in media promotion of theatres got together within the framework of workshop entitled "Theater in the Age of Digital Challenges". The film "In the Footsteps of Vakhtangov", devoted to the upcoming 100th anniversary of Vakhtangov Theater, was shown in the concert hall of Taganrog Chekhov's Library. Andrey Rogozhin, a lecturer from Russian State University of Cinematography named after S. Gerasimov, held his master class on actor's speech.
The closing ceremony of International Theater Festival "In the Homeland of Anton Chekhov" was held on September 19, 2021.
