Lüdenscheid's Adolf-Reichwein-Gesamtschule delegation visiting Taganrog

January 17-31, 2017: Seven students from Lüdenscheid's Adolf Reichwein Gesamtschule and school's director of learning support Mr. Markus Ignatzek are visiting the city of Taganrog within the framework of international educational exchanges with Taganrog Chekhov Teachers College. The program consists of practical training at Taganrog Municipal Schools no. 5, 6; Chekhov Public Library and Interface translation agency.

The long-term study-abroad exchange program began in 2001. Since that time 12 delegations of German school students came to Taganrog and 11 groups of Taganrog college students went to Lüdenscheid.

German guests at the meeting with Deputy City Manager Irina Golubeva

It has always been a tradition for Lüdenscheid's bürgermeister to meet Russian students at the rathaus (town hall), and for their Russian counterparts to receive delegations from Adolf Reichwein Gesamtschule at the Mayor's Office. January 27, 2017 German delegation was received by Deputy City Manager for Social Affairs Irina Golubeva and met the local press. Mrs. Golubeva who until recently held the position of Taganrog Teachers College president has been kept up-to-date on the exchange project. She began the meeting by transmitting a letter addressed to bürgermeister Dieter Dzewas, distributed souvenirs and asked German students to share their impressions of Taganrog. The 16-year-olds told about their stay in the home city of Anton Chekhov, impressions of local educations institutions, museums and hospitality at host families.

"I am sure many more kids would join this program if the visit was in summertime", told Markus Ignatzek. "The practical training's organization was just perfect. We haven't had a single complaint from our students. Of course back at home parents are worried as most of participants left abroad for the very first time. This visit made it possible for all of us to personally make sure that Russia has nothing to do with common stereotypes enforced in Europe", added Adolf Reichwein Gesamtschule's director of learning support.

In conclusion of the meeting, Mrs. Golubeva expressed hope that existing international contacts and Russian-German friendships will grow and strengthen through the years.
