Mayor to sign Sister City agreement with Khartsyzsk, Ukraine

September 2-3, 2009: Official delegation of the city of Khartsyzsk led by the Mayor Valery Dubovoy, Ukraine visited the city of Taganrog.

September 2 the delegation was received by Mayor Fedyanin at the Mayor's Office. The parties exchanged their views on development of cooperation in various areas and on establishing partnership between the people of the two cities. Mayors Fedyanin and Dubovoy agreed to sign a partner city agreement some time later in September 2009.



At the press conference, both mayors highlighted the importance of strengthening the cooperation between the neighboring regions. Mayor Fedyanin said: "I am very glad that you arrived. The relations between Ukraine and Russia are not reliving their best times, but we are fraternal nations and people of Ukraine reach out for the Russian people. I believe this is right, and it is very good that we have found this opportunity to make a step to each other.


Taganrog and Khartsyzsk have much in common. Both cities are industrial with developed iron & steel, building and machine-building branches. There is even a Chekhov Park (Municipal Park named after Anton Chekhov) in Khartsyzsk. Both cities celebrate their "City Foundation Day" in September.

During the tour of the city, the visitors from Khartsyzsk visited the Chekhov Birth House, Chekhov Shop (Lavka), Alferaki Palace and several monuments.
