August 28, 2025: birthday of the Taganrog-native actress Faina Ranevskaya is traditionally celebrated in Taganrog. Having been born as Faina Feldman on August 27 (O.S. August 15), 1896 in a wealthy Jewish family, she was recognized as one of the greatest comic actors of the 20th century. Faina attended the local school for girls and received regular home education. In 1915, she left her home city to pursue a theater career in Moscow.


On August 23, 2025, special events on the occasion of the 129th anniversary of Ranevskaya's birth got started in Taganrog. Museum and film exhibitions, workshops, soirees were held by cultural facilities, museums, and travel agencies through August 28. Moreover, local visit information centers set up special photo areas for the city's residents and visitors.

Among the most notable events, a retro steam train "Visiting Ranevskaya" arrived to the main train station of Taganrog. Visitors to the city enjoyed a number of themed tours.
