March 28, 2022: a press conference on integrated development of the city as a tourist destination was held in Taganrog. City Manager Mikhail Solonitsin and Rostov Oblast Deputy Governor Alexander Skryabin met the press and responded to questions on
Taganrog's urban revitalization program and on-going preparations for Peter the Great's 350th birth anniversary.
Mikhail Solonitsin and Alexander Skryabin described the major activities dedicated to Peter the Great, such as street exhibitions, open-air museums, a graffiti contest, festivals and competitions.
A new memorial sign is to be unveiled in Peter's Square. Moreover, the Children's Art Contest "Peter I, the Founder of Russian Cities" was announced. Over 250 artworks from 30 Russian towns have already been received.
Municipal and regional authorities are planning to initiate a large greening program. 27000 perennial flowers together with 4000 annual ones have been prepared for planting in Taganrog. Over 130 junipers and 20 mature pines will be placed in Peter's Square.
Furthermore, it is planned to refurbish three roundabouts and one of the entrances to the city.
Preparations to renovate Pushkinskaya Embankment are also underway.
In conclusion, Mikhail Solonitsin welcomed everyone to contribute to the activities and thanked Taganrog's residents and visitors for doing so.
