"Brick Chronicles" exhibition opens at Taganrog Museum of Architecture and Urbanism

May 23, 2022: a new exhibition was unveiled to the public at Taganrog Museum of Architecture and Urbanism. Until August 10 visitors of the museum are welcome to see the exhibition "The Brick Chronicles".

marianna_grigoryan_2022_2 Humanity has used blocks composed of dried clay for thousands of years. "The Brick Chronicles" offers a unique opportunity to behold the fragments of bygone times. The exhibition presents the main types of building and interior ceramics of the late 18th - early 20th centuries: red, refractory and glass bricks; facade and fireplace tiles; Mettlach, paving, pyrogranite tiles. There are over a hundred genuine items, both local and produced in other governorates of the former Russian Empire, as well as products of foreign origin.

brick_chronicles "The Brick Chronicles" features items from private collections of Taganrog researchers Yelena Alexeenko and Sergey Lavrov, collections of Taganrog Group of Museums (TGLIAMZ) and the local lore & history department of Taganrog Chekhov Public Library.

A special focus was made on bricks and ceramics from buildings in Taganrog's historic downtown area that exist no more or were greatly damaged. An interactive display unit showed photos of excavations conducted by local enthusiasts in the territory of Russo house on Frunze street, with some of the findings for display at the exhibition.
