October 27, 2022: Taganrog was mentioned twice by survey respondents of the national project "Top 20 Russia's Major Events in 20 Years".

The project was implemented by the media holding 1MI and the Internet Development Center (IRI): journalists, sociologists and various experts identified the most significant events in modern Russian history that have influenced the lives of the younger generation. The corresponding surveys involved the residents of all regions of Russia aged from 18 to 35.


The respondents named two Taganrog-related events. The first one is that Beriev Aircraft Corp. organized production of multipurpose amphibians BE-200ES for the needs of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations and received its long-term order. The Ministry has already obtained six out of ten aircrafts for the special squadron being formed.

Earlier in 2019, in 2020 and in 2021 BE-200ES planes participated in the first fire-fighting mission in Turkey. Algeria rented one Be-200ES in summer 2022 and earlier announced the intention to purchase four aircraft.

The modernization of the Taganrog streetcar system became another major event in this ranking. In total, 60 new streetcars are to be provided, 45 km of the tramways are to be fully re-built, and about 100 tram stations are to be constructed. The upgraded system was officially launched after major improvement works in late September 2022, although some minor works are still underway.
